David Richard Rivers

David Richard Rivers (83) of Woodland, WA, was born to Werner Gerhard and Vieno Sylvia (Pekkaraine) Rivers on Aug. 5, 1941, in Brainerd, MN, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 26, 2024. On Jan. 14, 1967, he married Ruth Rose of Battle Ground, WA. They lived in Minneapolis, MN, for nine months before moving to Clark County where he lived the rest of his life while raising their eight children.

David worked as a printing press operator for 38 years at Weyerhaeuser and Tetra Pak in Vancouver, WA, before retiring in 2004. He lived most of his years in La Center and Woodland. David was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl; and sisters, Ruth Koistinen and Mary Ann Sarkinen.

David was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and his Christian faith was the most important thing in his life. He enjoyed visiting and welcoming family and friends into his home. He would relate stories of his Christian upbringing to all, especially in his later years. His simple believing and love of family was a great example to us all.

He is survived by Ruth, his loving wife of 57 years; brother, Jim (Greta) of Maple Plain, MN; sister, Helen Sarkinen of Yacolt, WA; sons, Wayne (Jill) of Brush Prairie, WA, Andrew (Carolyn) of Kenosha, WI, Jason (Danielle) of La Center, WA, Jeffrey (Loren) of Woodland, and Brandon (Vanessa) of Duvall, WA; daughters, Marie (Joshua) Williams, Keri of Vancouver, and Karla (Arliss) Peterson of Woodland, 25 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of Christian friends.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Woodland, 1610 Dike Access Rd., Woodland, WA, with a viewing from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 30 and one hour prior to the service.
