It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Debbie Lee Akers, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on Monday night, October 14th. Debbie’s kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Born on April 1st, 1949, Debbie was a beacon of warmth and strength to those around her. She grew up with a passion for helping others, which she carried into both her personal and professional life. Whether it was through her career, volunteering, or simply being there for family and friends, Debbie’s compassion was limitless.
Debbie's greatest joy in life was her family and horses of all kinds. As a devoted mother, she raised her children with patience, love, and humor. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment she spent with them, spoiling them with love and stories. Known for her infectious laugh and incredible empathy, she brought light to family gatherings, and her wisdom was a constant source of comfort to those who sought her advice.
In addition to her love for her family, Debbie had a passion for anything to do with horses and was an incredible source of equestrian knowledge for all her family and friends. Added to that was her unwavering support of the Clark County Fair Mounted Patrol (Fence Riders) and she thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and doing new things. Horse camping with her husband Walter as well as family and friends was one of her favorite things in the world. She had a talent for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories, often through her selflessness and humor.
Debbie is survived by her husband Walter McBride, her kids, Paul and Sara Gottwig, a long list of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as countless friends and extended family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported them during this difficult time. In honor of Debbie’s life, a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 27th between noon and 4pm at the Moulton Falls Winery and Cider house.
Though Debbie has left this world, her legacy of love, kindness, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
May she rest in peace.
