James Alfred Matson, age 88, died on February 29, 2024 at Graceland, his care home, in Battle Ground, Washington. He was born at home in Venersborg, Washington on March 25, 1935 to Albert and Vivian Lehto Matson.
Jim lived in Clark County most of his life. He worked in the trades as a logger, sawmill hand, carpenter, foundation contractor and concrete truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and hiking in the local hills.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Doris West Matson, his parents and nine siblings: Wes Matson, Marge Staudinger, Lew Matson, Lee Matson, Carol Sarvis, Betty West, Don Matson, Mary Kandoll, and Chuck Matson.
He is survived by ten children: Nola Aho of Frazee, Minnesota, Mona Matson of Hayti, South Dakota, Connie Seppanen of Bryant, South Dakota, Pattie Aho and husband Jeff of Rindge, New Hampshire, Jay Matson and wife Diane of Yacolt, Washington, Lois Somero and husband Kurt of Sophia, North Carolina, Sallie Seppanen and husband John of Bryant, South Dakota, Burt Matson and wife Inna of Amboy, Washington, Jerry Matson, also of Amboy, and Sara West of Battle Ground. He is also survived by his sister Rhoda Olin with her husband Jim and one sister-in-law, Sharon Matson.
A funeral service will take place Friday, March 15th at 11:00 AM at the Hockinson Apostolic Lutheran Church. Followed by interment at Gravel Point Cemetery and lunch at the church.
